MAKING SENSE OF LOW MOOD

When you no longer
feel like yourself.

Low mood can make ordinary tasks feel heavy. You may withdraw, lose interest, become highly self-critical or feel disconnected from other people. Low self-esteem can leave you doubting your judgement, comparing yourself with others or accepting situations that do not feel right.

Sometimes there is an obvious reason. At other times, the feeling has built gradually or has been present for so long that it seems part of who you are.

WORKING TOGETHER

What we can explore

Counselling offers a place to speak honestly about how you are feeling and to notice the patterns that shape your relationship with yourself. We may explore criticism, shame, loss, difficult relationships, unmet needs or experiences that have affected your sense of worth.

We can look at how you judge yourself, where those beliefs came from and what you want to change.

  • Understand your inner voice

Notice the patterns in how you speak to yourself.

  • Explore what has shaped you

Talk about experiences that have affected your confidence and sense of worth.

  • Consider what could change

Identify steps you want to take.

Working at your pace.

Some sessions may focus on what is happening from week to week. Others may look more deeply at where beliefs and patterns began. We will agree the focus together and review whether the work is helping.

A CALM PLACE TO BEGIN

Talk about how you’ve been feeling

You don’t need a diagnosis or a clear explanation for how you feel. A short message is enough to ask about counselling.
