Meet Marie Merton
A person to talk to.
A space to be yourself.
Hello, I’m Marie Merton. I offer counselling and psychotherapy for people who want to understand what’s happening in their lives and talk about what has been difficult.
You don’t need to know where to begin. We can start with what is on your mind.

Merton Counselling
My professional background
Training and experience.
I am a qualified psychotherapist. I trained at the Tivoli Institute in Dún Laoghaire, where I earned my Diploma in Humanistic Integrative Psychotherapy.
I also have several years of experience in suicide prevention and crisis support. My counselling practice does not provide an emergency or immediate crisis response.
My approach
How I work
My approach is humanistic and integrative. I adapt therapeutic ideas and techniques to you, rather than following a fixed formula. I’ll listen to your experience and ask questions to help us understand current pressures, relationships and patterns that keep returning.
I also draw on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), particularly when working with anxiety, phobias and depression. Practical tools can help with immediate challenges alongside the deeper exploration of psychotherapy.
We’ll agree what you want from counselling and review how the work is going. You can tell me when something doesn’t feel right or when you want to change the focus.
What matters in our work together
Support that begins with you.
Space to be heard
You can bring difficult feelings, uncertainty or questions. I welcome people from all walks of life and value diversity. There is room to speak openly, with kindness, respect and without judgement.
A shared understanding
We explore what matters to you together, with respect for your experiences and the choices that are yours to make.
Your own pace
You decide what you feel ready to share. We can take time with difficult experiences and allow understanding to develop.
Professional standards
Ethical, confidential practice.
I am an accredited member of the Irish Association of Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapists (IAHIP) and the Irish Council for Psychotherapy (ICP). I am bound by its code of ethics and practice and subject to its complaints procedures.
Our consultations are confidential, with limited legal and ethical exceptions. I will explain these limits clearly before we begin.

A welcoming space
Room to pause.
Time to talk.
A quiet, comfortable setting can help you settle into a conversation. My practice offers a place to step away from the demands of everyday life and give yourself some time.
